Greatest Royal Rumble results: Undertaker somehow beats Rusev despite it being Rusev Day

Shameful.

The Undertaker only wrestles a few times a year, so any time he shows up on WWE programming is special. The fans of Saudi Arabia got to experience a rare Deadman appearance Friday when the veteran wrestler defeated Rusev in a casket match at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

Rusev never had much of a prayer in this one, but the fans still popped for Aiden English’s “Rusev Day” introduction. ‘Taker responded with the opposite of that, his standard four-minute walk to the ring accompanied by the somber tones of a funereal dirge. The crowd went nuts for it anyway.

Rusev ran out of the ring in fear of, well, just the Undertaker, I suppose. He’d get blasted a few times at ringside for his trouble, then briefly turn the tide before forgetting he’s facing an undead mortician and stupidly gloating about the fact he got three consecutive punches in. I get you’re excited about Rusev Day man, but come on.

Anyway, Rusev got thrown onto the casket after an old school chop off the ropes, and it became clear he’s actually afraid of the casket itself rather than the ‘Taker.

He gets a few more shots in before the veteran regains the advantage with a guillotine leg drop on the apron. He rolled Rusev into the casket, but English prevented him from closing the lid, providing enough of a distraction for the Bulgarian to recover and engage in another striking war. He somehow got the upper hand with a handful of leg drops, then locked in the Accolade in hopes of wearing the veteran down to the point where he could be easily rolled into the casket.

But Rusev made the mistake of turning his back on the ‘Taker.

Both Rusev and English end up in the casket. It’s a little romantic.

Should I watch this match later?: It’s an Undertaker match, which is good. It’s a 53-year-old Undertaker match, however, which is ... actually not as bad as it sounds. It’s got Rusev, which is good. But it’s also got Rusev eating a loss, which is bad. This one depends on how much you like either guy.
