Greatest Royal Rumble results: Lesnar speared through cage, retains Universal Championship

Roman Reigns speared him through the cage, but that’s still technically escaping.

Brock Lesnar didn’t re-sign with the WWE to be just another guy. He re-signed to be champion — and he stayed atop the organization’s depth chart Friday by retaining his Universal Championship. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion dispatched Roman Reigns inside a steel cage at the Greatest Royal Rumble, though the result was anything but convincing.

Reigns walked to the ring behind a mixed chorus of cheers and boos, though it sounded like the Saudi fans were giving him a warmer reaction than, well, pretty much anywhere else over the past four years. Lesnar gets cheers, albeit at a smaller volume than Reigns’ had before him.

It takes approximately 20 seconds before Reigns is victim of three German suplexes. Then a fourth. Then an F-5. The Saudi crowd hits him with a “one more time” chant, which suggests they may not be as pro-Reigns as we may have thought.

But Reigns battles back and hits three straight Superman punches before trying to climb over the top of the cage and escape like a little bitch. Lesnar reels him back in and tries to escape as well, but his massive gorilla feet can’t find a foothold, and that leads to a momentum-shifting powerbomb.

Reigns hits his Spear finisher once, then twice, then a third time. It’s good for a two count. He tries to walk out the door for the win, but Paul Heyman blasts him in the face with it, sending him careening into another F-5. Heyman throws Chekhov’s steel chair into the ring, and instead of just calmly walking out of the cage, Lesnar takes off his gloves, picks up the chair, and eats a spear.

Two count.

Now Reigns has the chair and he’s using it to punch holes in the rhino skin of Lesnar’s back. Superman punch. Spear. THROUGH THE CAGE!

Brock wins because his back hit the floor first. Well, that’s an interesting finish, at the very least.

Should I watch this later?: Sure. It’s like watching two drunk friends spam finishers in a video game. And that final spear was impressive.
