Haotong Li’s second day at his first Masters tournament wasn’t going so well. After finding himself among the leaders after a stellar 3-under performance in the opening round, Li had struggled to tame the famed Augusta National course, posting a 6-over score on the front nine to drop him off the first page of the leaderboard.

Li’s second day has been ... not great. But this was good!
But then came the 10th hole — and some much needed relief for Li.
His first birdie of the day came on a one-bounce chip-in, and the young golfer’s exuberant club toss after realizing where his ball had landed said everything about how badly he needed a win. On its own, it’s a play about the cruelty and greatness of golf in four acts:

Li is awesome, because Li is all of us, the casual golfers who understand the pain of back-to-back double bogeys and the instant wonder of a dead-nuts shot that makes you love golf again and flip your pitching wedge to the random chaos of the heavens above.
He’s currently tied for 26th at the Masters with a score of 1-over, which makes him decidedly less one of us, however.
