The news comes a week after Robinson Cano’s suspension.

Welington Castillo, the 31-year old White Sox catcher, is being suspended for steroid use, as first reported on Wednesday by Americo Celado via Z Deportes reporter Hector Gomez. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic confirmed the news.

Castillo reportedly tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug but not a steroid, per Rosenthal, which is similar to Robinson Cano, who on May 15 suspended 80 games after being caught using a masking agent.

This is Castillo’s first year with the White Sox, after having spent time during his career with the Cubs, Mariners, and Diamondbacks. He’s currently hitting .270/.314/.477 with a .791 OPS and six home runs in 32 games with Chicago this season. He’ll miss 80 games and be ineligible for the All-Star Game or the postseason. This is his first offense.

Castillo has never hit lower than .237 in a season, minimum 50 plate appearances. He’s averaging .260/.318/.431 during his nine-year career, with 86 home runs and 298 RBI.
