The Rockets missed a record setting 27 straight three-pointers in a Game 7. At home.

The Rockets have lived by the three all season, and in Game 7, it went horribly wrong. Houston missed 27 in a row from three point range, which is so uncharacteristic for them. According to ESPN, that’s the most consecutive misses from a team in the playoffs ever.

The Rockets play a game based on three-pointers and layups. It’s a game that has been able to give the Warriors a run for their money. But when your team misses that many in a row from deep, it’s pretty hard to recover.

This is the team that set the record for most three-pointers made in a season and in a Game 7 at home they had one of the worst droughts imaginable. During the season Houston made 1256 shots from three point range and that success mostly spilled over into the playoffs. But a three point heavy game plan only works if the shots go in, and in a rare moment for Houston, they didn’t.

Eric Gordon made a three-pointer with 6:43 left in the second quarter. The Rockets did not hit another one until PJ Tucker knocked down a corner jumper with 6:28 remaining in the fourth.

It’s tough to win against the Warriors if you’re not hitting three point shots, nonetheless close to 30 in a Game 7. The Rockets ended the game shooting 7-44 from three point range.

Houston got off to a scorching hot start in the first half. They were making shots, Eric Gordon was doing an exceptional job filling in for an injured Chris Paul, and they were on top of the warriors 54-43 at half. Impressive for a team without one of it’s best playmakers on the floor.

In the second half however, the Warriors erupted. Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Steph Curry — who needs to have a good game for the Warriors to do well — starting hitting shots. Meanwhile, Houston couldn’t get anything to fall. Golden State destroys teams in the third quarter, and this one was no different.
