Tom Lehman got roasted online for wearing his hat backwards at the British Open

He did it to keep rain from dripping off the brim while he putts, not to look young, dummies.

Tom Lehman had a pretty solid Friday at the 2018 British Open. The 59-year-old veteran ventured back toward the cut line with an even par 71 at the event he’d won back in 1996. He walked off the course with a lower score (+4) than younger pros like Dustin Johnson, Charl Schwartzel, Bubba Watson, and Brandt Snedeker.

But then Twitter woke up, saw him wearing a backwards hat, and decided it was Tom Lehman roast day.

Lehman made the mistake of flipping his hat around in order to keep rain from dripping off the brim and distracting him while he putted across Carnoustie’s expansive greens. One shot of the Champions Tour veteran looking like Robin Williams firing off jokes about rappers was all the internet needed to make him a trending topic early on a quiet morning.

All in all, some pretty light roasting for one of the most dad-looking players on the course this week. Lehman joins the pantheon of backwards-hat dad golfers who got roasted online. Its president is Jim Furyk.
