4 things on our NFL wish list this season

Wouldn’t it be nice to see a team other than the Patriots win the AFC East this season? We discuss that and more in Friday’s Rise ‘n Grind.

It’s one of the slowest weeks of the year on the NFL calendar.

Summer vacation continues and we’re still a few weeks out from training camp. The most interesting thing going on is figuring out what on earth Kirk Cousins was grilling at his July 4th BBQ.

As we wait for NFL action to return later this month, here are four things we’re hoping to see from the league in 2018.

1. A team other than the Patriots winning the AFC East!

The last time a team other than the Patriots won the AFC East was 2008 when the Dolphins won the division and immediately lost in the Wild Card game. Is it likely that the Dolphins, Jets or Bills win the AFC East? No. Would we like to see it happen? Absolutely!

2. The Browns winning a game, or maybe even two.

Now, I’m not going to get too crazy and actually predict the Browns make the playoffs, or anything like that. But, I’d like to see Cleveland win a game or two this year. Poor Hue Jackson deserves it.

3. The Chargers not losing games due to bad kicking.

The Chargers could have made the playoffs last year if not for bad kicking in numerous games at the start of the season. The team brought on former Eagles kicker Caleb Sturgis and former second-round pick Roberto Aguayo to compete for the kicking job this year. Hopefully one impresses and doesn’t cause L.A. to lose any games on missed field goals. My money is on Sturgis.

(The above picture is former Chargers kicker Younghoe Koo reacting to an attempt at a game-winning field goal, which he missed, causing the Dolphins to beat the Chargers, 19-17.)

4. A new Super Bowl Champ that has never won the Lombardi.

It was pretty refreshing to watch the Eagles win the Super Bowl last year as a team that had never taken home the Lombardi Trophy. Wouldn’t it be nice to see another franchise that has never won the Super Bowl bring it home this season? Our options are the Bengals, Bills, Browns, Cardinals, Chargers, Falcons, Jaguars, Lions, Panthers, Texans, Titans and Vikings.
