Roman Reigns beats Brock Lesnar for Universal Championship at SummerSlam

Reigns speared Lesnar and got a clean pin, while Braun Strowman tried to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Roman Reigns finally has the WWE Universal Championship after besting Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam on Sunday.

Shortly before the match started, Braun Strowman came out and said he refused to cash in the briefcase when his opponent’s back is turned, and proceeded to watch the match from the outside, promising they would fight afterward.

The match then started, with Reigns coming out with multiple signature moves while Lesnar was still distracted. Multiple spear attempts were stopped by guillotine chokes from Lesnar, but Reigns eventually got out of them. Reigns got Lesnar out of the ring, then attempted to take him out, but hit Strowman instead.

Lesnar followed them out, and gave Strowman an F-5 outside the ring. He then attacked Strowman with the Money in the Bank briefcase, and then a steel chair. Lesnar went into the ring to take on Reigns with the chair, but ate a spear and was then pinned clean by Reigns.

There was no second match featuring Strowman, however.

Lesnar and Reigns have faced each other at what feels like every major pay-per-view for the last ... forever. The 41-year-old Lesnar was once again booked against Reigns at SummerSlam, for what many believe would be their final showdown, at least as far as this current feud is concerned. Of course, that’s what virtually everybody believed was happening when the two met at the last Wrestlemania, and then Lesnar went ahead and won that match.

After that, multiple reports surfaced regarding Lesnar potentially returning to the UFC in the heavyweight division. He did as much when he returned to confront Daniel Cormier following his win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 in July. Now, Lesnar and Cormier are likely to do battle next, outside of WWE, so where Lesnar goes from here is the big question.

Now on to Reigns vs. Strowman at a later date.
