LeBron James producing a docuseries called ‘Shut Up and Dribble’ is perfect

In February, a conservative news pundit told LeBron James to “shut up and dribble.” Now, the Lakers newest superstar will focus on that, just not in the way Laura Ingraham meant.

According to Variety, James will produce a documentary series for Showtime titled after the now-infamous quote. Shut Up and Dribble will focus on the history of the NBA and the impact of the players, starting with the 1976 ABA merger to now.

Showtime CEO David Nevins made the announement on Monday, saying “LeBron James is one of many competitors whose place in the spotlight has led not to silence but perspective, and he, Maverick Carter and Gotham Chopra have given us an important, insightful docuseries that should bring their fans and fellow citizens to a higher level of discourse, rather than the dismissal satirized in the title.”

Laura Ingraham said in February that James should “shut up and dribble” in response to the NBA All-Star speaking about social injustice and equality.

LeBron recently opened the I Promise School in his hometown of Akron, drawing the ire of President Donald Trump after James told CNN in an interview that he would “never sit across from [Trump].”

Since then, the Lakers organization, NBA players, Michael Jordan, and even Melania Trump came to James’ defense. This most recent attack from the president only solidifies the notion that LeBron should continue using his platform, as he said during All-Star weekend, “for inspiration and trying to find a way out, and find some leeway on how [kids] can become as great as they can be and how those dreams can become a reality.”

It’s been a busy summer for James. Aside from signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has also been connected to various projects, including a Paramount comedy film, a Netflix series with Octavia Spencer, and an HBO barbershop talk show. And there are plenty more:

Shut Up and Dribble will premiere in October.
