Buffalo Bills running back Taiwan Jones suffered a scary injury on Sunday afternoon during a loss to the Chargers.
Bills RB Taiwan Jones has a giant gash on his head — and is expected to play anyway
Jones was hit, without his helmet on, against the Chargers and somehow, he’s OK.
Jones was recovering a muffed Chargers punt that bounced into the end zone. In the process he lost his helmet, and then took a nasty shot to his un-helmeted dome. You don’t have to be a doctor to know that a hit like that hurts.
It’s probably going to scar too. Jones revealed the giant gash on his head in the locker room after practice on Wednesday. It’s not pretty.
Yes, you read that correctly. He did not suffer a concussion on the hit (which seems weird). And he could be on the field against this week when the Bills are in Minnesota to play the Vikings.
Here’s another look at the hit itself.
It wasn’t a soft blow, as you can see, and Jones was seen bleeding from his head as a result. Trainers came out to the end zone to help him up and off the field. The hit came from Chargers linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, who later apologized for the hit.
The play was ruled a touchback, and Nwosu, a rookie, received an unnecessary roughness penalty for the hit. Jones was taken to the locker room to be evaluated.
Bills coach Sean McDermott said on Sunday that Jones did not have a concussion, but he added that the whistle should’ve blown much earlier:
The play came after the Bills scored their first touchdown of the year thanks to Chris Ivory. They lost, 31-20.
Jones is in his second season with the Bills, after spending the first six years of his career with the Oakland Raiders.
