Michael Thomas proved himself to be one of the NFL’s best receivers against the Eagles

You really can’t guard Mike.

The Saints were able to come back from a 14-0 deficit at home to beat the Eagles 20-14, advancing to the NFC Championship against the Rams. Michael Thomas was a big reason for the Saints’ comeback.

Thomas had 12 receptions for 171 yards and a touchdown on the night, propelling the Saints one game closer to the Super Bowl in Atlanta. It was the most receiving yards in a single postseason game in Saints history.

By now, you’ve probably heard about Thomas’ Twitter handle, @Cantguardmike. It’s self explanatory, and he showed off all the ways you can’t guard him against the Eagles.

Thomas had 12 receptions, and we’d be here all day if we went over each of them:

But there were a couple of more notable ones, including this third-and-16 conversion where he broke free from two Eagles, before being brought down by three others:

Then there was his touchdown reception that had some people on Twitter declaring him the best wide receiver in the NFL:

I’m personally not quite ready to get there yet with guys like Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, and Odell Beckham Jr. around. But Thomas is damn good, and certainly belongs in the discussion with those guys at the very least.

There was a point where Thomas was out-gaining the Eagles’ offense by himself after the first quarter.

And the Saints Twitter account took the opportunity for the light flex:

Thomas finished the game with 171 yards, and the Saints got the win, despite the Eagles’ best efforts to squeeze a little bit more underdog magic out.

In the week their game against the Eagles, Sean Payton was asked if the Saints would ever force Thomas the football.

His answer was, “No, no, no, no, no, no. No. ... We don’t just drop back and throw the ball indiscriminately to a player.”

Payton’s probably not lying, but when we’re talking about Michael Thomas, I’m not sure the Saints are getting many of those predicaments.
