Jets safety Jamal Adams bodyslammed the Patriots mascot at the Pro Bowl

The person in a Pat Patriot costume had to get medical treatment.

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams had some fun with a rival team Wednesday, but it may have gone a little too far. The safety drilled Pat Patriot with a clean bodyslam at a Pro Bowl practice in front of an appreciative crowd.

But a day later, Adams told reporters that the hit sent the man inside the Patriots mascot costume to the hospital.

“He [the mascot] was running around and everybody was booing him, so I said, ‘You know what? Let me go tackle him,’” Adams said, via ESPN’s Michael DiRocco. “I didn’t hit him that hard, man. All jokes aside, I didn’t hit him that hard. I don’t know what’s really going on, but they did tell me he’s in the hospital. My intention was never to hurt him. it was all about just a joke but I definitely want to check on him and make sure everything is good. At the end of the day we were out here just having fun and it wasn’t nothing intentionally to try to hurt the guy.”

Pat Patriot didn’t immediately look too injured and he even got back up to get some revenge later. He pinned Adams and the two hugged it out. He also posted about it on Twitter:

Because there wasn’t much indication that it was anything serious, people at the practice thought it was funny.

Among those with a front row look at the hit were Broncos pass rusher Von Miller, Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, and retired Broncos and Cowboys pass rusher DeMarcus Ware. Each seemed pretty entertained by the Patriots mascot getting tackled.

Adams went to Twitter to tell people that it’s not that big of a deal.

The Patriots said that the man did not go to the hospital:

However, ESPN said the man is expected to seek treatment when he returns to Massachusetts after the Pro Bowl. He will fine in time for the Super Bowl, though.
