Hours before the Miami Dolphins were set to host the Jacksonville Jaguars in their 2024 season opener, superstar wideout Tyreek Hill was arrested and cited by police officers for reckless driving. This morning, Hill was driving into the stadium and was stopped by police officers, before being handcuffed and placed face down into the pavement by officers.

Update: On Monday Miami-Dade Police released the bodycam footage — over 100 minutes according to Stephanie V. Daniels, Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department — in response to the incident. According to a statement from Daniels, the footage was released as part of the department’s “commitment to transparency and maintaining public trust.”

Here is a portion of that footage:

Previously: Miami-Dade Police put the officer has put one of the officers on administrative leave following the incident. Dolphins defensive linemen Calais Campbell was reportedly also at the police scene and said he believed the cops were using excessive force against Hill. Campbell said he was also detained.

Here’s a statement from the police:

Here’s video of the incident:

Per ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, there was an altercation between Hill and the officers which led to Hill being placed in handcuffs. Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus came down to the scene and was able to de-escalate the situation, allowing Hill to enter the stadium.

The Dolphins issued a statement on the situation:

“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”

Hill is active for the game against the Jaguars.
