Ricky Williams doesn’t believe we’ll see a resurgence in the NFL’s RB market

Ricky Williams believes we will not see a resurgence in the running back market

Sunday will see Saquon Barkley lead the Philadelphia Eagles into Super Bowl LIX, the final act in an incredible season for Saquon.

Elsewhere in the NFL we saw Derrick Henry almost do the same with the Baltimore Ravens. While they did not reach that level specifically there were also great seasons authored by Aaron Jones with the Minnesota Vikings and Josh Jacobs with the Green Bay Packers.

All four of these running backs were in the first season with their new teams after joining in last year’s free agency cycle. Many have wondered whether or not this will lead to a return of legitimacy, so to speak, of the running back market and to figure out if that’s true or not we decided to ask someone who would know... Ricky Williams.

I had the chance to speak to Ricky on Friday while on Radio Row at the Super Bowl in New Orleans and he was utterly delightful. On the subject of the running back market though, Ricky feels that the injury that surrounded Christian McCaffrey all season may lead to NFL teams still being spooked with regards to paying them.

It is certainly an interesting theory and one that we will see unfold in the coming weeks. This year’s running back free agents do not resemble last year’s, but there may be teams who want in on the action that were in the cold this past year.

Chatting with Ricky was awesome and he joined us on behalf of his work with Panini. Panini America is hosting Ricky Williams along with several other NFL players and draft prospects at the Panini Prizm VIP lounge in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl Weekend. Panini is the exclusive trading card partner of the NFL. You can get Panini NFL Trading Cards at Walmart, Target, hobby stores nationwide and at www.PaniniAmerica.net.

Our thanks to Ricky and to Panini for the time!
