SB Nation NFL mock draft: Colts need offensive weapons, and this TE is a perfect fit

Regardless of whether Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones earns the starting QB spot, this tight end will make their life much easier.

The Colts are seemingly entering the 2025 season with Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones battling it out to be the team’s starting quarterback. Regardless of who ends up winning the job, they’ll need a trustworthy group of pass-catchers around them.

Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs all recorded at least 800 yards receiving last year. That’s pretty dang good for a team with sub-par quarterback play. However, tight end Kyler Granson led his position with only 182 yards on 14 receptions. That’s simply not good enough for a position that’s been more and more important to a team’s annual success in recent history.

Luke Schultheis of Stampede Blue is plenty aware of this shortcoming on the Colts offense which is why, with the 14th pick in the SB Nation Community Mock Draft, he’s taking Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.

14.) Indianapolis Colts: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State

Schultheis: For a state that knows a thing or two about great basketball, Tyler Warren is a slam-dunk pick for the Colts. He can catch. He can block. The Colts have gotten next to nothing receiving-wise from the tight end position recently, and Warren could remind them of another former top Big Ten tight end who wore No. 44 for the franchise.

Analysis: Warren is a top-10 talent in the 2025 NFL draft and the Colts manage to land him around the midway point of Day 1. This is an amazing outcome for the Colts who also would have likely been just fine taking Michigan’s Colston Loveland here, as well.

The John Mackey Award winner from this past season is as friendly as it gets for a quarterback, which is exactly what the Colts need for either Richardson or Jones. Having a strong wideout trio is great, but the do-it-all Warren truly helps round out the entire offense. Add in that he’ll be able to help open up run lanes for standout running back

Top five remaining players:

  1. Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas
  2. Malaki Starks, S Georgia
  3. James Pearce Jr., EDGE, Tennessee
  4. Mike Green, EDGE, Marshall
  5. Jalon Walker, EDGE, Georgia

Warren is finally off the board and we now have five defensive players here in our best five remaining players. The top two are defensive backs while the latter three are all edge rushers. The Falcons are picking next and after taking quarterback Michael Penix in the first round a year ago, I have a feeling they’ll be looking to reinforce the other side of the ball with this year’s pick on Day 1

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
