Golf has had an incredible run of major championship winners since 2024

Scottie Scheffler is the latest major champion of serious note.

It is often said that the cream rises to the top. The PGA Championship was an example of that.

Earlier in the event the leaderboard felt like a bit of a question mark with some curious names hanging out following Thursday’s activity. As the weekend wore on though the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm made their way up with Scottie outlasting them all to secure his third career major championship win.

With all due respect to Rahm, it was nice to see him contend in a major again, names like Scottie and Bryson have become commonplace at majors over the last year and a half (Rahm suggested he will be right back, too). Entering Quail Hollow there was nobody out there picking a winner outside of Scheffler, Dechambeau or Rory McIlroy and Scottie proved that idea to be founded in logic and reason.

Those three names are all current holders of major championships. Scottie’s win at Quail Hollow may be his latest major, but ever since he won his second Masters early last year we have seen a run of serious names winning the game’s most coveted prizes.

Major Championship Winners, 2024 to Present

  • 2024 Masters: Scottie Scheffler
  • 2024 PGA Championship: Xander Schauffele
  • 2024 U.S. Open: Bryson DeChambeau
  • 2024 Open Championship: Xander Schauffele
  • 2025 Masters: Rory McIlroy
  • 2025 PGA Championship: Scottie Scheffler

With all due respect to Brian Harman as well, he won the Open Championship directly preceding Scottie’s 2024 Masters win, he is not in the same rank and file as the names on this list from a worldwide perspective. Scottie, Rory and Xander are currently the top three golfers in the world by OWGR. While that is a flawed system given the state of professional golf they are all still inside of the top six in Data Golf’s rankings of professionals (as is Bryson).

This all ultimately proves that golf remains in an incredible place with its stars showing up when the lights shine brightest.

Next up in that sense is the U.S. Open at Oakmont.
