Late Monday night TGL’s social accounts suggested that news was on the way and it arrived on Tuesday as lunch begin to unfold on the east coast.

Expansion is coming for TGL. Starting in 2027 there will be a seventh team in the league. Get ready for Motor City Golf Club!

TGL’s Detroit team will feature ownership that oversees the NFL’s Detroit Lions, obviously, and Denver Broncos franchises. It is unknown who the players on the team will be, but the 313 is going to at the very least be represented.

“This is a great moment for Detroit sports and a proud moment for me personally,” said Michael Hamp, a co-owner of Middle West Partners and Motor City Golf Club’s new team governor. “My grandfather, William Clay Ford Sr., was an avid golfer, and I believe bringing a new format of the game he loved would make him really proud. I’m incredibly grateful for our partners at MCGC – it’s an honor to build this team together. Detroit’s fans are the most loyal in sports, and we’re excited to represent our city in TGL and build a team that Detroit fans will be proud to support.”

The first season of TGL was a massive hit, even if it did come with some learning opportunities. With expansion already announced and for the 2027 season at that... it seems very clear that is is not going anywhere. TGL is very much a part of our lives.

With expansion to 7 of them, TGL now has an odd number of teams so it would make sense to even them out for simplicity’s sake. There have been rumors for a while of a Dallas-based franchise and that could serve as an opportunity to introduce the newest PGA Championship winner Scottie Scheffler to the league.
