It is hardly a surprise, but it is official nonetheless.

On Wednesday it was announced that world number one golfer Scottie Scheffler is the first person to officially qualify for the United States Ryder Cup team that will look to re-take what is theirs at Bethpage Black later this year.

“Scottie continues to prove why he is the No. 1 player in the world, showcasing incredible consistency and dominance week to week,” U.S. Captain Keegan Bradley said. “He is the ultimate team player and I have no doubt that he will be ready and motivated come September. I could not be more excited to have him as a member of the U.S. Team.”

...

“Representing the United States at the Ryder Cup has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I look forward to doing so for a third time this September,” Scheffler said. “I will do whatever it takes to help our team reclaim the Cup and cannot wait to play in front of the passionate New York spectators at Bethpage Black.”

This is the third straight Ryder Cup appearance for Scheffler and his second on American soil. Scottie made his debut in the event in 2021 when the United States team won at Whistling Straits, a matter I partly spoke to Jason Day about this week.

It was on that final Sunday when Scottie “surprised” the world by taking down Jon Rahm in singles. Looking back we obviously know a lot about Scottie, but that really was the beginning of the run that he is currently in the middle of.

Time will tell who Captain Keegan Bradley sees and chooses to join Scottie as the rest of the season unfolds.
