The U.S. Open is taking place this week and doing so at Oakmont in Pennyslvania.

Oakmont has a rich history for the national championship and has seen some incredible names in the world of golf dance their way through the challenge it presents. The last time we saw this track in U.S. Open play came almost a decade ago in 2016 when Dustin Johnson finally broke through for his first major championship.

GOLF.com’s Claire Rogers rewound things a bit on social over the weekend and shared the Official World Golf Ranking from the moment in time that the 2016 U.S. Open was taking place. DJ was number 3 in the world with friend of the program Jason Day holding the top spot.

Jordan Spieth was the defending U.S. Open winner at the time and held the number two spot in teh world. Rory McIlroy was at number four while Bubba Watson, fresh off of a couple of recent Masters wins, was number six. Ricie Fowler was at seven, Danny Willett, the reigning Masters Champion, was at number nine... the list is quite the blast from the past.

Willett was indeed the holder of the green jacket at the time and obviously DJ would go on to win this tournament. Henrik Stenson, number five on this list, would win the Open Championship while Jimmy Walker, down at number 44, would take home the PGA and outlast Jason Day by a stroke to do so.

My how much has changed.
