We have reached the final major championship of the 2025 season, somehow the time went by that quickly.

To date the proverbial mountains of golf have been climbed by Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and J.J. Spaun, each doing so in incredible and history-making fashion. We have not had a year where a single player captured more than one major in a season since, um, last year. Xander Schauffele took home the Open Championship of all tournaments at Troon last year to give him two majors on the season, the first two of his career.
While it makes sense to take one of Rory, Scottie or J.J. this week it also stands to reason that someone who hasn’t won a major this year will lift the Claret Jug. A name that I keep thinking about as a candidate is someone who said this week that he holds the Open Championship in the most prestige of any golf tournament in the world... Jon Rahm.

Rahm has finished inside of the top 15 in every major so far this season with top 10 finishes at both the PGA Championship (where he went for it repeatedly at the end in an effort to try and win, worsening his finish as opposed to if he had played more conservatively) and the U.S. Open. Evaluating LIV Golf tournaments and finishes is still a complicated thing, but consider that of their 10 events to date this season that he has finished inside of the top 10 in all but one. For what it’s worth that one was LIV Golf Dallas, the event I was at personally. I’m an Arizona State alum so I thought I would bring Rahm some good vibes, clearly not!
With regards to the Open Championship specifically Rahm has also been on a heater as of late. With the exception of 2022 (T34) Rahm has top 10 finishes since 2021 (in order... T3, T2 and T7 last year). Golf is a game where crazy things can happen, but the point here is that Jon Rahm is sort of hiding in plain sight.
Rahm has yet to win a major championship since the 2023 Masters which was only two years ago. He remains one of the best players in the world and one to watch with a careful eye in Ireland this week.
