Bukayo Saka has grown up under the spotlight

Few players have become as synonymous with the English soccer as Bukayo Saka in recent history. Coming through Arsenal’s Hale End academy, he burst onto the scene as a teenager under Unai Emery in the 2018-19 season. First featuring as a left back, he blossomed into one of the game’s most exciting young attacking players on the right wing for the Gunners.

Saka was a central part of England’s run during his first World Cup appearance at the 2022 World Cup, starting in four of their five matches. He found the net three times, including a brace against Iran to open the tournament as well as a goal against Senegal in the round of 16. Though they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by eventual finalists France, his performance earned man of the match honors.

With the Three Lions looking to win their first trophy since the 1966 World Cup, Saka will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in their successes. Though he has had a down season domestically due to injuries, he has proven time and time again that he is the sort of player that embraces the opportunity to represent his country and, more often than not, rises to the occasion when called upon.

Simply put, Saka is a player that raises the level of the players around him. His selfless play and tactical soundness makes him a nailed-on starter for the Three Lions. As the Premier League season draws to the end with Arsenal in another title race, Saka’s influence has been felt by the Gunners, especially in his absences.

His season has been punctuated by a series of setbacks that will undoubtedly impact how much Thomas Tuchel utilizes the brilliant young winger. If he can maintain his fitness, there’s no doubt he will play a significant role in England’s chances this summer.
