Kobe Bryant passes Wilt Chamberlain on NBA all-time scoring list

Bryant reached his 31,420th point and beyond in Sacramento.

He's playing with a bone spur in his foot, but Lakers star Kobe Bryant still took an opportunity to make history tonight in Sacramento. With this jumper in the second quarter, Kobe leapfrogged Wilt Chamberlain to reach 31,420 career points and fourth on the NBA all-time scoring list.

Kobe now sits beneath some folks you may have heard of -- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points), Karl Malone (36,928), and Michael Jordan (32,292) -- on the all-time list. Bryant's been good for around 2,000 points a (non-lockout-shortened) season in recent years, so catching Kareem might take around four more years. Knowing Kobe, that isn't out of the question. Health willing, of course. At the very least, we can hopefully look forward to the day Kobe surpasses Jordan, ideally in a game against the Bobcats.

Meanwhile, not many current players are in Kobe's vicinity, at least not yet. Kevin Garnett (25,237) and Dirk Nowitzki (24, 866) are the next active guys on the list and sit at 15th and 17th all-time, respectively.
