It feels like there’s Lions kicker excitement every week. After cutting two kickers this season, they finally settled on Matt Prater and things started feeling great again in Week 7. This time, their own screw-up benefited them. Detroit essentially iced themselves with a delay of game on the winning attempt, which missed:

That’s BARELY a delay of game, if at all, but it was enough for the refs. Check it out in slow-mo:
The penalty backed Detroit up 5 yards (no run-off because the clock was stopped), turning a 43-yarder into a 48-yarder, and Prater buried that one (despite an ugly snap):
Besides those measly 5 yards, this penalty really helped the Lions-- they got the second attempt, and the Falcons couldn’t decline the penalty and accept the miss because the original play technically never happened.
