Rajon Rondo certainly had *some* influence on the Celtics deal that sent him to Dallas -- the Mavs wouldn’t want him if they didn’t believe he’d re-sign -- but yeah, he didn’t “decide” to go there:

It happens, though. Not everyone at a big press conference like that one is someone who covers the team year-round and knows exactly what’s going on. Honest mistake, and Rondo did a nice job taking it in stride.
