Fans throw flares during European soccer games. I’ve never quite figured out why that is the case, but it is. This is more than just that, though. This is a barrage of flares hitting the pitch during a Euro 2016 game between Croatia and the Czech Republic, and one of them exploding near a person attending to the field:

Croat players could later be seen pleading with fans to stop, which ... yeah, they should stop doing that.
ESPN’s broadcast offered no indication of whether the flares caused any injury, but the guy whose face was frighteningly close to one appeared to walk away under his own power.
