Before the SEC’s lucrative deal with ESPN put kickoff times completely at the mercy of the Worldwide Leader, the policy in Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall was to forbid kickoffs after dark late in the autumn.

As long as the NCAA has had a rule book, people have violated the bylaws in it. Nothing that is going on today is truly new, it’s just that our connected world has made it easier than ever to catch people in the act.
