Hannover 96 have announced that Adrian Nikci has been diagnosed with meningitis. The midfielder will remain in the hospital for a week.

The Hannover midfielder will be in the hospital for a week.


Nikci, 22, was removed from the squad on Saturday to face Hamburg when he was complaining of cold symptoms. He was treated by Hannover doctors at the stadium. Overnight, his condition worsened, and he was taken to the hospital with a fever. He was diagnosed at the hospital with viral meningitis. In order to properly treat him, he must remain at the hospital for a week.
Sporting director Jörg Schmadtke said, “We hope Adrian has a quick recovery. He’s in good hands with his doctors and hopefully he’ll be able to leave the hospital in a few days.”
Nikci had performed well so far this season since signing from FC Zurich. He scored a late goal to earn a draw against Schalke in the first match of the Bundesliga season.
