Werder Bremen smashed Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-0 in Saturday’s late game. The three points sees Bremen jump all the way into 9th place, and Gladbach have still yet to win on the road this season.

Werder Bremen received a goal and an assist from Marko Arnautovic on their way to a 4-0 victory.

After some back and forth with both sides make the goalkeepers work a little bit, Bremen finally found the opening goal after 36 minutes. Kevin De Bruyne’s corner to the back post was met by Nils Petersen with a solid header. Martin Stranzl headed the ball away, but it had already crossed the goalline to give Bremen the 1-0 lead.
Just when Gladbach though they were going to escape into the half only down one goal, Marko Arnautovic scored to make it 2-0. Aaron Hunt played a perfect through ball to send Arnautovic behind the Gladbach defense, and the Austrian chipped Marc Andre ter Stegen to score seconds before the end of the first half.
Sebastian Mielitz never had a lot of work to do in the Bremen goal on the day. Determined not to throw away three points, were content to counter as Gladbach pushed forward in increasing numbers. Arnautovic got behind the Gladbach defense again, and he found Niclas Füllkrug with a cross. The substitute left no doubt by smashing it past Ter Stegen to make it 4-0.
Not content to have only heard The Proclaimers three times on the night (This blares in Bremen after a goal by the home side.), Gladbach failed to clear a corner from Mehment Ekici, and Zlatko Junuzovic scored with a low shot that Ter Stegen couldn’t reach in time.
