Greuther Fürth vs. Werder Bremen: Final score 1-1, Fürth score first goal and earn first point at home

Greuther Fürth scored their first goal and earned their first point at home this season.

Lennart Preiss

Werder Bremen will come away from Saturday’s contest disappointed as they managed only a point away to Greuther Fürth after a 1-1 draw. It was Fürth’s first point at home this season. It was also Fürth’s first home goal. Yikes.

Edu (Yes. Edu is THAT Edu.) scored after only eight minutes to give Fürth the improbable lead. Edgar Prib played a nice ball down the side to Zoltan Stieber. The midfielder crossed the ball into Edu who easily beat Sebastian Mielitz for the early lead.

From that point on the match was all Bremen. Sebastian Prödl scored with a header a few minutes, but he was judged to have committed a foul beforehand. Max Grün was on top of his game to keep Marko Arnautovic and Nils Petersen from scoring with some nice saves.

Bremen finally found their equalizer just before halftime. Arnautovic sent in a cross to Petersen, and the forward headed it past Grün to send both sides level into the half.

Grün would come up big again in the 59th minute with a double save on Petersen and Arnautovic on the way to securing a big point for Fürth.
