Borussia Mönchengladbach picked up an equalizer in stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 draw against Hamburg at Borussia Park.

Hamburg’s Rafael Van der Vaart continued his impressive run of form of late with a left footed blast that Marc Andre ter Stegen had no chance at saving. The goal gave Hamburg another boost after Saturday’s huge victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Gladbach struck back in the 39th minute. The equalizer came when Martin Stranzl headed in Havard Nordtveit’s corner kick. With time running down in the half and a lack of ability to score goals this season, Gladbach needed the goal heading into the half to keep their confidence about them.

With seconds remaining in the half, Hamburg’s Milan Badelj sent a cross deep into the penalty area. Artjoms Rudnevs leapt and got his head to it putting the ball past Ter Stegen to make it 2-1 Hamburg.

Gladbach found their equalizer as Alvaro Dominguez headed in a cross from a Juan Arango free kick in stoppage time. The centerback ripped his shirt off and ran to the corner to celebrate in front of the supporters.

Hamburg looks to have turned a corner with these last two performances against Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach. There’s no question that the influence of Van der Vaart on this team may be enough to turn their entire season around.
