Augsburg Vs. Bayer Leverkusen, 2012 Bundesliga: Leverkusen Win Easily

Bayer Leverkusen picked up a much needed three points against bottom-of-the-table Augsburg with a dominant first half in a 3-1 win.

Stefan Kießling headed Leverkusen out in front after only 7 minutes. Gonzalo Castro sent in a shot that struck the crossbar out of the diving reach of Mohamed Amsif. The ball deflected out to Kießling who headed it back at the goal. It appeared that Amsif was able to get his hand back up and save the ball from crossing completely over the goalline, but the referees ruled it a goal.
Leverkusen doubled their lead in the 39th minute. Philipp Wollscheid volleyed a loose ball in the penalty area from a free kick. The visitors struck again just before halftime. Andre Schürrle curled a low, left footed shot into the far corner. Leverkusen took a 3-0 lead into the break.

Augsburg managed to pull one back in the 51st minute thanks to Tobias Werner. The midfielder raced to the touchline and sent a chip at a ridiculous angle toward the goal. The shot caught Bernd Leno out of position, and the young goalkeeper could only flap at the ball as it went over his head and into the goal. This was the only solitude in another dreary day for Augsburg.

The win jumps Leverkusen up to 8th in the table, while Augsburg remain rooted to the bottom with only 1 point.
