Leon Andreasen tears his ACL

Hannover 96 have confirmed that Leon Andreasen has torn his ACL following an MRI on Thursday morning. The midfielder collapsed to the pitch just eight minutes into Wednesday’s match against Nürnberg and had to be substituted.

Andreasen had been in excellent form to start this season since returning from a 28 month layoff due to a continuous groin injury. It’s not yet known exactly how long he’ll be out, but this type of injury usually sidelines people for 6-9 months.

He already has his sights set on a return to the pitch, and he appears to be in good spirit considering his situation. He spoke to the club’s official website this morning:

“I don’t give up. The injury is bad but you can still play football after a cruciate ligament injury. Since yesterday evening, I’ve received so much encouragement and I’d like to thank all those that got in touch. It motivates me. I know that the coming months won’t be easy and there will be a lot of work and rehabilitation but I want to play football again. It’s worth fighting for and, as of today, I’m working towards my comeback.”
