Kickers Offenbach vs. Wolfsburg: Final score 1-2, Die Wolves end Offenbach’s fairy tale run

Wolfsburg advanced to the semifinals of the DFB Pokal and ended Kickers Offenbach’s fairy tale run.

Wolfsburg held on late to beat Kickers Offenbach 2-1 and advance to the semifinals of the DFB Pokal. The 3.Liga side had eliminated two Bundesliga sides, Greuther Fürth and Fortuna Düsseldorf, in the tournament, but they were unable to grab another victory over a top flight club.

Offenbach nearly took the lead shortly after kickoff, but Mathias Fetsch put his shot over the goal. Wolfsburg began to assert control on the match and slowly took over things. They controlled possession and kept Offenbach at bay but struggled to put things together. The two sides went into the half scoreless.

The second half would play out differently from the start. Makoto Hasebe crossed the ball into the area, and Ivica Olic managed to get a touch to it and see it over the line just five minutes into the second half. Offenbach pushed back, but Bas Dost scored in the 71st minute to make it 2-0.

Things became dicey at the end when Marcel Stadel scored for Offenbach in the 81st minute. Offenbach pushed for the equalizer in the remaining minutes, but they were unable to score another and force extra time.
