Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp will miss the rest of the season with broken hand

Eintracht Frankfurt was hit with a massive blow on Tuesday when it was announced that goalkeeper Kevin Trapp would miss the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his hand during training with the German U21s. He will have surgery on Friday to repair the broken metacarpal and middle finger .

While details about how exactly Trapp injured his hand aren’t well known, but one report says Trapp slipped and fell while filming something for television:

Eintracht chairman Heribert Bruchhagen was quoted on the club’s official website: “Kevin Trapp’s injury is very unfortunate and a major setback. The medical prognosis is especially harsh as it is unlikely that Kevin will return to the team within the remainder of the season. We will analyse the course of events of the accident together with DFB.”

Manager Armin Veh will turn to veteran goalkeeper Oka Nikolov in an attempt to hold things together. The 38 year old has played his entire professional career with Frankfurt and has made well over 350 appearances for the club. He’ll try to lead them through the fire of the last eight games in the season while Frankfurt fights for a spot in Europe.
