Schalke held on to their hold on the fourth and final Champions League positioning by rescuing a late point against Bayer Leverkusen.
Schalke vs. Bayer Leverkusen: Final score 2-2, Die Königsblauen rescue point with a late penalty
Just when it appeared that they would fall out of the Champions League place, Schalke rescued a point in the dying minutes with a late penalty against Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen struggled to finish their chances early in the first half. Andre Schürrle failed to convert numerous opportunities including a few impressive save by Timo Hildebrand. They finally opened the scoring in the 39th minute when Simon Rolfes headed in Lars Bender’s cross.
Stefan Kießling doubled the lead early in the second half by directing Michal Kadlec’s free kick into the net.
Teemu Pukki was sent on by Jens Keller, and the Finnish international immediately made an impact. Michel Bastos’ long range shot was saved by Bernd Leno, but Pukki was on hand to knock in the rebound.
Just when Leverkusen though they were leaving with all three points, Pukki struck again. The forward was fouled by Ömer Toprak in the penalty area, and the Leverkusen defender was sent off. Raffael stepped up and converted the penalty to earn Schalke a 2-2 draw.
Leverkusen are now four points ahead of Schalke and eight points behind Borussia Dortmund. Schalke are now one point ahead of Freiburg.
