Bayern Munich vs. Eintracht Frankfurt: Final score 4-0, Thomas Müller hat-trick wins it

It wasn’t their most emphatic performance of the year, but Bayern Munich got three points, thanks to a hat-trick from Thomas Müller.

The unstoppable force that is Bayern Munich kept rolling along Saturday, staying unbeaten and atop the Bundesliga after winning comfortably, 4-0, at Eintracht Frankfurt. Three individual moments of brilliance from Thomas Müller meant that he would end up with three goals from four shots, and one was blocked right in front of the net.

Bayern have been so dominant that it isn't normal to see them put in a less-than-spectacular performance. David Alaba was recently injured, and it's hard to sum up how much he means to the side as a tactical Swiss Army Knife in Pep Guardiola's ever changing system. Without him, Bayern didn't look the same.

Müller opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Even though Bayern weren’t really threatening during the entire first half, they were still the better side and their possession game started wearing down Frankfurt. It would pay dividends later.

A major moment of controversy came around the 52nd minute, when Alexander Meier had a headed effort on goal about seven yards out. The ball went straight into the arm of Jerôme Boateng , but referee Florian Meyer wasn’t having any of it and no penalty was given. Frankfurt were understandably demoralized, and this momentum shift would be too much to overcome.

Müller made it 2-0 shortly after the hour mark. After this, Bayern were too much for Eintracht to deal with. Xabi Alonso was too effective in midfield, and Makato Hasebe and Slobodan Medojević couldn’t prevent a steady flow of passes carving up the home side.

Just minutes later, Müller completed his hat-trick. Working on the outside of Sebastian Kittel, Müller used strength to hold the defender off in order to create enough space to have a shot. His strike beat Wiedwald to the far post.

Xherdan Shaqiri made it four goals to nil just four minutes from time. Arjen Robben broke through the defence, and the ball squirted out to the right after his initial shot was parried. Goalkeeper Wiedwald was unable to grasp the ball. Shaqiri struck it about 15 yards out, and it rolled into the far corner.

Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer; Rafinha, Jeröme Boateng, Dante, Juan Bernat; Mario Götze, Philipp Lahm (Sebastian Rode 72'), Xabi Alonso, Franck Ribery (Xherdan Shaqiri 76'); Robert Lewandowski (Arjen Robben 68') , Thomas Müller.

Goals: Müller (22’, 64’, 67’) Shaqiri (86’)

Eintracht Frankfurt: Felix Wiedwald; Timmy Chandler, Marco Russ, Anderson Bamba, Bastian Oczipka; Stefan Aigner (Lucas Piazon 82’), Makato Hasebe, Slobodan Medojevicć, Haris Seferović; Marc Stendera (Sebastian Kittel 67’), Alexander Meier.
