The NCAA announced on Wednesday findings related to an “enforcement investigation” into allegations of “sports betting-related game manipulation and other violations.” In the findings, the NCAA identified three former players -- Mykell Robinson, Steven Vasquez, and Jalen Weaver -- who played men’s basketball at Fresno State and San Jose State and participated in what the NCAA described as a “sports-betting related game manipulation” scheme.

The investigation began after both Fresno State and a “sports betting integrity monitor” flagged suspicious prop bets placed on Robinson, who was roommates with Vasquez at Fresno State during the 2023-24 NCAA basketball season. In January of 2025, Robinson and Vasquez -- who by then was playing at San Jose State -- communicated via text message regarding upcoming Fresno State games.
The NCAA found that in those text messages, Robinson outlined that it was his intent to “underperform in several statistical categories during one regular-season game.” Robinson, Vasquez, and a third party bet a combined $2,200 on Robinson to underperform in those statistical categories.
According to the NCAA’s findings, a $15,950 payout was distributed when Robinson underperformed as planned. As noted in the full report regarding Robinson, ”[a]fter the game, Vasquez coordinated with Robinson to transfer $1,425 of the winnings to Robinson’s mother.
Additionally, on January 10, Vasquez provided $200 from his own winnings to Robinson.”
Robinson also placed multiple bets on Weaver, his Fresno State teammate, including two bets before a game in December of 2024. Ahead of that bet, according to the NCAA, Robinson and Weaver “exchanged information about their respective betting lines.”
The NCAA also noted in its findings that both Vasquez and Robinson “failed to cooperate with the enforcement staff’s investigation.”
According to the full investigative report into Robinson, the investigation began in January of 2025. The full report also uncovered that Robinson placed 13 prop bets on himself totaling $454 “as part of different parlays on over and under-lines before other Fresno State men’s basketball games on December 11, 28 and 31, 2024; and January 7 and 11, 2025.” Robinson won over $600 on those bets.
All three players were released from their teams and are no longer enrolled at their previous schools. Two of them received permanent ineligibility.
