Mystery man at ACC Tournament is singing 90’s nostalgia at the top of his lungs

Something beautiful occurred during the ACC tournament opening game between Stanford and Pitt when a man decided the best way to distract Stanford during free throws was to belt out the hits of yesterday.

The world started to notice the man in the second half, when he began belting out “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls at the top of his lungs while the rest of the arena was silent.

Presumably a Pitt fan, the man wasn’t done here. Later in the game he was back to belting out karaoke classics, this time with “Linger,” by The Cranberries.

A close back-and-forth game, the fan knew he needed to bring out the big guns down the stretch and transitioned to “Higher” by Creed, which is upping the stakes significantly. You can even hear a few people around him start to join in, being willed to action by the spirit of music.

Perhaps the best part of this is that the players on the court likely have absolutely no idea what any of these songs are. They are far too young to have a good grasp on the subtle delights of this musical era. Sorry Stanford, but we were all Pitt fans during this game, if for no other reason that it increased the possibility of hearing the singing man continue his journey through the ACC Tournament.

Whether it was the singing, the energy, or all just a wild coincidence, Pitt won which means the fan will keep dancing (and singing) into the second round.
