The Illinois Fighting Illini absolutely throttled the USC Trojans, 94-64, in the last quarterfinal matchup of Monday action in the Maui Invitational.

The Illinois Fighting Illini advanced to the semifinals of the Maui Invitational, hitting more than a dozen three-pointers to bury the USC Trojans 94-64.


Illinois outshot USC 53.2 percent to 44.2 percent, but it was from behind the three-point line where the Trojans did the most damage. Illinois buried USC with a barrage of three-pointers, hitting 13 of 29 from downtown and grabbing 13 offensive rebounds to USC’s five. Many of these threes came in the first half to pace the Illini to a 57-26 halftime lead, and Illinois was never seriously threatened in the second half.
Brandon Paul led Illinois with 26 points on 9-15 shooting while also drilling six three-pointers. D.J. Richardson added 13 points, Tracy Abrams 11, and Tyler Griffey put in 10. USC got 13 points from Eric Wise, 11 points from J.T. Terrell, and 10 points from Jio Fontan.
IIllinois advances to face surprising Chaminade on Tuesday night; USC heads to the loser’s bracket to face Texas.
