The Panthers led for much of Wednesday night’s game but the Wolverines eventually held on for the victory.

The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers, 67-62, on Wednesday night in the semifinal of the NIT Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden. They will advance to the tournament's championship against the Kansas St. Wildcats, who knocked off the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens earlier in the night.

The Wolverines were led once again by their stellar backcourt tandem of Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway, Jr., who put up 17 points and 16 points, respectively. Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III were also in double digits for Michigan, which shot 46 percent from the field but just 3-17 from three-point range. Michigan made up for it at the free-throw line, though, where they made 18 of 22 shots while the Panthers took only a total of 11 (making six).

Pittsburgh led for most of the game, but relinquished the lead with 8:24 remaining in the game and would not regain it after that point. The Panthers cobbled together 62 points off a true team effort, with 10 players scoring at least one basket but only one (Lamar Patterson) hitting double digits.

The Wolverines will face the Wildcats on Friday night for the tournament championship.
