No. 3 Ohio State vs. UMKC final score: Buckeyes smoke Kangaroos in Columbus 91-45

Ohio State had no trouble dispatching UMKC on Friday night.

Jamie Sabau

On Friday night in Columbus, the old axiom was true: Even despite the 46-point margin of victory, the final score made the matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and UMKC Kangaroos seem closer than it was. The Buckeyes went into halftime up by the staggering score of 53-18, only outscoring UMKC by 11 points in the second half after emptying their bench.

The Buckeyes had five players in double-digits, including forward DeShaun Thomas, who put up 21 points on 6-8 shooting along with eight assists. Lenzell Smith, Jr., Sam Thompson, LaQuinton Ross and Shannon Scott were the other four Buckeyes with at least 10 points on the night. As a team, though, Ohio State's offensive numbers looked pedestrian compared to what they did to UMKC on defense.

The Kangaroos shot just 14-of-55 from the field and 1-of-15 from three-point range, numbers that come out to 25 and seven percent respectively. What saved UMKC on offense was their free throw shooting -- they shot 16-of-23 from the line, and their 69 percent clip from the stripe actually out-paced Ohio State's percentage from the same spot. But that was the only bright spot, as the team's leading scorers (Estan Tyler and Thomas Staton) finished with seven points each.

The No. 3 Buckeyes will be off until Wednesday night when they travel to Cameron Indoor to take on the Duke Blue Devils in one of the marquee early season games of the season.
