St. Joseph’s suspends Carl Jones for 3 games

Guard Carl Jones will miss the first three games for St. Joseph’s.

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

St. Joseph's guard Carl Jones has been suspended for the first three games of the 2012-13 season for a violation of community standards, according to Adam Zagoria of SNY. The school is set to begin its schedule with an exhibition game against Wheeling Jesuit. The regular season begins with a game against Yale on Monday, and the Redhawks then have a tilt with Notre Dame in Brooklyn for the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

Jones was an important player for head coach Phil Martelli’s squad last season. He played the second-most minutes while taking the highest percentage of shots and drawing the most fouls per 40 minutes. Jones did struggle a bit with his shot, knocking down just 47 percent of his 2s and 35 percent of his 3s, but he more than made up for it by hitting a team-high 147 free throws.

As the lone returning senior, Jones is a leader by default. It appears he has not met team standards, and that will hurt the Redhawks in what will likely be their toughest non-conference test against the Fighting Irish.
