Drew Crawford injury: Northwestern forward to undergo season ending surgery

Senior forward Drew Crawford will miss the remainder of the season for the Wildcats, as he will have surgery on his right shoulder.

Northwestern Wildcats senior forward Drew Crawford will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, according to an announcement from the school on Friday (via a report from Scott Powers of ESPNChicago.com).

Wildcats head coach Bill Carmody said in a statement included in Powers’ report that Crawford re-injured a prior ailment in September and, though he attempted to continue playing with the injury, the shoulder just wasn’t getting any better.

Crawford will, however, be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, according to Powers, which could mean a potential fifth season at Northwestern for the senior from Naperville, Ill.

In 10 games for the Wildcats this season, Crawford was the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.5 points per game while shooting 40.0 percent from the field and grabbing 4.6 rebounds per night. Northwestern is off to a 7-3 start to the season, and will next face Texas State at home on Monday, Dec. 17.
