The North Carolina Tar Heels looked like they were going to blow out the East Carolina Pirates in the first half, but it wouldn't prove to be so easy. The Tar Heels won 93-87 on Saturday afternoon, but had to scrap for most of the second half. The Pirates got the lead down to only four points in the dying seconds, but in the end it was too little, too late.

It wasn’t perfect, but the Tar Heels picked up a win at home on Saturday afternoon against the Pirates.


James Michael McAdoo led the Tar Heels with 19 points and nine rebounds, but shot only 5-15 from the floor. P.J. Hairston went for 18 points, and Reggie Bullock added 14 points and seven rebounds. The Heels shot over 49 percent from the floor as a team, and outrebounded the Pirates 40-34.
Akeem Richmond led the Pirates with 17 points, and Miguel Paul and Maurice Kemp went for 15 points.
The Tar Heels play again on Wednesday, Dec. 19, when they travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns.
