The Duke Blue Devils are college basketball's new No. 1 team.
College basketball rankings: Duke takes over top spot in AP Top 25
The Duke Blue Devils take the top spot in the AP Top 25. Indiana falls to No. 6.

No. 1 Duke did not play last week but moved into the top slot following previous top-ranked Indiana’s thrilling loss to Butler over the weekend. Duke’s ownership of the top spot was seen as a longtime coming by many critics, who called for the Blue Devils to surpass Indiana after rolling through a challenging early non-conference schedule that included three top-15 teams -- Ohio State, Louisville and Minnesota -- as well as then-No. 3 Kentucky.
The weekend’s most notable game -- Indiana versus Butler -- significantly affected the polls, as expected. The Hoosiers dropped to No. 6, while Butler enters the rankings for the first time at No. 19.
No. 2 Michigan moves up one spot after a convincing 15-point win over West Virginia last week. The Wolverines, led by sophomore guard Trey Burke, have yet to be challenged this season, winning only two games by less than nine points. Burke has established himself as a strong early season Player of the Year candidate, averaging 18.0 points, 7.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Arizona jumped into the top five to No. 4 after defeating No. 8 Florida in perhaps the weekend’s most exciting matchup, which saw the Wildcats overcome a six-point deficit in the game’s final minute.
No. 3 Syracuse and No. 10 Illinois mark the only other two undefeated teams in the top-10. Syracuse moved up one spot by merit of Indiana's loss, while the Fighting Illini stood pat at No. 10. Illinois puts their undefeated record on the line this weekend against No. 12 Missouri in a matchup of preseason Wooden Award candidates Brandon Paul and Phil Pressey.
