Eastern Michigan vs. Michigan preview: Wolverines face in-state competition

John Beilein’s Wolverines will put their undefeated record on the line on Thursday night against Eastern Michigan.

Looking to continue their hot start to the young season, the Michigan Wolverines will welcome Eastern Michigan to the Crisler Center on Thursday night for an in-state showdown.

The No. 2-ranked Wolverines picked up a 15-point win over West Virginia last Saturday to snatch their 11th victory of the season, and they currently check in behind only the Duke Blue Devils in both national polls. Led by the elite backcourt duo of Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr., the Wolverines are hitting an improbable 40.1 percent of their three-point attempts so far this season.

Fresh off losing to Illinois-Chicago by 26 last weekend, Eastern Michigan will attempt to pick up its second victory over a Big Ten school this year. The Eagles narrowly edged Purdue, 47-44, back on Dec. 8 and will bring the nation’s No. 8 defensive unit in block percentage into Thursday’s game. While the two programs usually square off on the gridiron with regularity, they don’t often meet on the hardwood. The Wolverines rolled to a 31-point win in the previous meeting during the 2008-09 season.

When: Thursday, Dec. 20

Where: Crisler Center, Ann Arbor, Mich.

Game time: 8:30 p.m. ET

TV channel: Big Ten Network

Spread: Michigan -25
