No. 16 New Mexico vs. South Dakota State final score: Jackrabbits upset Lobos, 70-65

The Lobos can’t stop Nick Wolters as he leads his Jackrabbits to an upset win on the road.

The South Dakota St. Jackrabbits upset the 16th-ranked New Mexico Lobos, 70-65, on Saturday in Albuquerque to give New Mexico its first loss of the season.

The Jackrabbits led by four at halftime and were able to hold on late by simply shooting the ball better than the Lobos.

The Jackrabbits were led by Nate Wolters, who exploded for 28 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Jordan Dykstra got a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Chad White added 13 points and Brayden Carlson pitched in 10 points as well as South Dakota State shot 48 percent from the field.

The Lobos had a terrible shooting game, only hitting 38.5 percent of their shots, including just 8-for-24 from three-point range. Only one starter scored in double-figures with Tony Snell notching 13 points, but they were led by Kendall Williams' 21 points off the bench.

New Mexico forced the Jackrabbits into 18 turnovers but couldn’t get over their poor shooting game to prevent the upset.

The loss dropped the Lobos to 12-1 and the win improved the Jackrabbits to 10-4.
