UNLV star Mike Moser day-to-day with hip flexor

Mike Moser will not be out for a long period of time after the MRI on his hip came back negative.

Mike Moser feared that his hip injury might be serious and keep him out weeks or even months, but a MRI has eased the concerns of UNLV’s top player. The scan showed no serious damage and Moser is listed as day-to-day with a hip flexor.

“The good part is he’ll be back sooner than later,” UNLV coach Dave Rice said, via the Las Vegas Sun. “He’ll do a little bit more every day. I’ll know a lot more tomorrow than I did today.”

Moser did not play in UNLV’s win over Portland on Tuesday, a blow to the junior who hoped to shine in a return to his hometown. He is unlikely to play on Sunday when the Rebels take on Cal in Berkeley, but there is some hope that he can return next Thursday when UNLV hosts La Verne.

After a monster sophomore season that landed him as an AP All-American honorable mention, Moser entered this season with high expectations. He has been slightly disappointing in the early going this year, failing to match his numbers from last season, but he is still playing well and bringing the defensive intensity that earned him Mountain West All-Defensive Team honors last year. He is averaging 12.3 points per game, which is second on the team, and 9.2 rebounds per game, which is best on the No. 21 Rebels.
