No. 15 Georgetown vs. Towson final score: Hoyas win ugly, 46-40

Despite shooting just 29.8 percent, the Georgetown Hoyas defeated the Towson Tigers on Saturday, 46-40.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Though it certainly wasn't pretty, the No. 15 Georgetown Hoyas defeated the Towson Tigers on Saturday, 46-40.

Despite winning, the Hoyas shot just 29.8 percent (14-47) from the field, and were just 2-of-16 from three-point range. Georgetown didn’t fare well at the free-throw line either, connecting on just 16-of-24 free throws.

Still, Georgetown managed to avoid the upset.

Greg Whittington led the Hoyas with 11 points. Whittington also grabbed five rebounds and had three steals. Nate Lubick, Mikael Hopkins and Otto Porter all scored 10 points for Georgetown.

Jerrelle Benimon led Towson in the loss, posting a double-double, scoring 11 points while grabbing 16 rebounds.

Despite losing, Towson out-rebounded Georgetown 33-26, and had a better percentage from the field, shooting 31.9 percent. Towson, though, only attempted eight free throws as a team, whereas Georgetown had 24 attempts at the line.

Georgetown will host to the Longwood Lancers on Monday, Dec. 10, while Towson's next contest will come against Temple, on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
