The No. 18 Kansas State Wildcats avoided an upset on Saturday afternoon, narrowly defeating the West Virginia Mountaineers, 65-64, in Morgantown, W.Va. The victory marks KSU's sixth-straight win, and it gives the Wildcats a 2-0 start in conference play.

Rodney McGruder and Shane Southwell each scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats, who stopped the Mountaineers on their final possession with a deflected pass and a blocked shot. No other players reached double-digits in scoring, although Jordan Henriquez chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds off the bench in just 18 minutes.
West Virginia will be kicking themselves for their free throw struggles; they went 12-for-22 from the charity stripe and missed four of their six attempts in the closing minutes. Jabarie Hinds led the Mountaineers with 15 points. Aaric Murray had 11 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Terry Henderson added 10 points.
Next up for No. 18 Kansas State is a road trip to take on TCU. West Virginia will look to get back on track as they take on Iowa State in Ames, IA. Both of these conference games will be played on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
